BATHROOMS
Gone are the days of the basic utilitarian bath. Nowadays, everyone wants a soothing, spa-like retreat; to begin or end each day in a relaxed, stylish, and comfortable space. Here's some examples of the spaces we've created.
The bath on the left shows a true bather's retreat. Natural stone tiles on the floor and walls, along with stone veneer on the tub enclosure, create a warm, natural look. The barely there shower enclosure lets the tile take center stage, while the deep soaker tub is the place to unwind. The antique bronze fixtures add a nice pop of contrast to the soft, neutral shades of the stone.
The bath on the right proves that an all white bath can be far from boring. The clean-lined cabinets create a wealth of storage (something many times overlooked in bathrooms). The modern hardware, fixtures and mirrors play off the colors in the tile backsplash that goes to the ceiling and is capped with traditional trim. Mixing the modern with traditional details works here because of the classic color scheme.
Prairie Haute
The owners of this home waited a long time to create the master bedroom and bath of their dreams. While they did some of the work themselves, they knew where to draw the line and called us in to tackle the biggest bath project - the walk-in shower. Previously inhabited by the old, small master bedroom closet, it needed to be expanded depth-wise, while the width was more than adequate. There were only a couple of must-haves for these clients; a built-in bench and an arched ceiling detail (which ties into other arches in the house). The husband even went so far as to figure the size and dimensions for the arch bases, cutting them out on a bandsaw. We then started out with a Schluter-Kerdi system base - the only kind we recommend. White subway tiles with a beveled edge act as the field tile, while an accent strip of marble mosaic and pencil edge tiles tie into the marble vanity top. Flat rock tile in the base is a beautiful, non-slip finish. A sleek fixture, which includes a rain shower head and separate hand-held shower, provide a custom shower experience.
